Want a ticket to the FrEaK ShOw? (Well 9 of you already have one because you’re premium subscribers).
So here’s what’s going on in the life of yours truly.
I need a BIG injection of cash.
Now you might be thinking, “But you make plenty of money copywriting!” and you’d be right.
$25,000 a month base pay
$~$220,000 a year royalties (just got $35k extra for May)
That’s a whole whopping $520,000 or so a year!
And you live in Thailand you dirty dog — what the hell do you need a big injection of cash for?
Well — just because I make plenty of money copywriting doesn’t mean I’m not a complete idiot.
Over the last few years I’ve let a few things get away from me.
You see — that $520k? It’s BEFORE taxes.
And I’ve been kinda…late on those.
In fact right now (2024 included) I owe about $252,000 in back taxes.
But wait, there’s more!
Me dear sister has been having a lot of health problems over the last couple of years.
So many in fact that she hasn’t been able to work — that means no copywriting, no nothing.
She’s been suffering so badly some days she can only sleep and as she puts it “My brain doesn’t braining.”
After seeing a lot of doctors, it was recommended to her that she get an abdominal hysterectomy.
That was expensive.
To boot, my mother doesn’t work either.
Now I’ve been helping my Mother and my sister back home with a couple grand a month for awhile now but it ain’t enough.
And when my mother messaged me the other day saying, “I’m panicking a little, I’m thinking about having to go back to work.”
I said — NO WAY! How much do you and sissie-poo need each month to be comfortable, pay the mortgage and bills on time, and not stress out?
That number is about $8,000 a month (this includes not just bills and living expenses, but now medical debt and other issues).
So let’s budget another $96,000 ($8,000 a month for 12 months).
So now we’re at $348,000.
But in addition to that — me and the wifey got a bun in the oven (again) only 11 months after the first bundle of joy popped out.
And although we got an SUV — it’s not going to cut it.
We need to buy a larger vehicle and the one we’re looking at is going to be about $25,000 and I just want to buy it cash.
So let’s tack that on now I’m staring at $373,000.
And to top it all off — we need to build a house.
She and her parents own property in Thailand and we’ve been bouncing around from rental to rental.
The kids need some roots — so we need to build a house next to her parents’ place (Thai families love to be close) that’s comfortable and gives us a permanent place.
We’re looking at about $100,000 for that.
So all in all I need to drum up about $475,000 between now and January 2026.
Now — I COULD just drastically reduce my current expenses, bootstrap everything, and use every little extra dollar I could to pay down these taxes, pay the house in installments, lease a car, shell out an additional $8k to my Mom / Sister each month (in addition to taking car of my Wife, children, and my Wife’s parents) and so on.
Plus I got a MONSTER royalty that is slated to come in Q1 2026 of about $150k or so — so that could take care of a chunk of it.
But I’m a copywriter DAMNIT — and I should be able to generate money out of thin air.
Now here’s another thing about yours truly — for years I’ve been telling myself “I could make a lot of money if I really went balls to the wall and created my own offer…”
But then I’d think about all the work involved and go “Nah — I don’t wanna. I make plenty of money with my clients and I don’t want to add anything else to my work load.”
But staring down the barrel of these financial realities, I’ve decided I just want to nip this thing in the bud.
So I’m FINALLY going to try my hand at creating a real, honest-to-god million dollar offer that’s not for one of my clients, but just for ME.
And I want to take you crazy sons of bitches along for the ride.
Which means I’ll be documenting EVERYTHING along the way.
And I’m only going to do it in my Substack here.
There’s a few reasons for this…
Inspiration — Watch as I screw up, do something for the first time, and maybe possibly make it work. If it does — hopefully that inspires you.
Accountability — If I know I have an audience waiting on my updates and to see what the next step is (even a small one) it forces me to follow through with this or else I’ll feel like I’m letting you down (and looking hella flaky).
Documentation — If this offer goes well I could package up the entire documented journey I’m laying out here into its own course or book and create another product
Now I’m sure you’re DESPERATE for details — and they are forthcoming.
The very nutshell version is — I’m creating a $997 course and I’m going to sell it through a webinar funnel and I’m going to build the course WHILE selling it.
And because I’m updating you every step of the way, updates are going to be a little more frequent.
In fact — tomorrow I’ll be releasing a full schedule (NOTE: I’m looking to essentially launch by May 27) and plan (and I totally want your input on it).
And because I have ZERO social media presence to speak of I cannot market this organically. I basically have no audience.
So I’ll have to do this whole thing through paid ads and HOPE to high heaven I get a positive ROAS (Return on Ad Spend).
The goal is to generate $1 million of revenue (that’s not nete — I’d be tickled pink with about $450k net) between end of May and January 1st.
As always — some updates will be free for the masses.
But MOST are going to be for premium subscribers only.
So if you want to watch this whole thing unfold (even if just to point and laugh) buy your “ticket” below by subscribing for $10 a month.
For me personally this is a big challenge.
I’ve exclusively written copy for clients my entire career and have never really leveraged my knowledge to create a course or any kind of offer that I own.
In the back of my head I’ve always wondered about it, but never had a sufficient reason to do it (due to just being overall comfortable).
As with most things in life — it takes DISCOMFORT to force real change, light a fire under your ass, and push you further down life’s path.
And that’s where I find myself now.
This is going to be really interesting. Can I go from zero real following and essentially lean SOLELY on the skill of copywriting to find and convert COLD TRAFFIC into enough $997 customers (or some other additional revenue source after they purchase — haven’t figured that out yet) that it generates overall $1 million in revenue by 2026?
Let’s give it a try.
::gulp::
William
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do. This should be interesting to follow in real time. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Damn, it's exciting as all hell to be here and watch it all unfold.
You can take inspiration from the modern copy guru's, let's say Zarak for example.
Also I know a couple of people who do funnel breakdowns of creators & info-product sellers.
Couldn't hurt to try building an organic presence too no?
Anyhow, wish you all the best in this.
